Gum Recontouring – Fargo, ND

Give The Spotlight Back to Your Teeth

Make no mistake, your gums are important. They shield delicate dental roots from external sensations and help keep your teeth in place. But there is such a thing as having too much gum tissue. An abnormally thick gumline can not only make it more difficult to brush and floss effectively but also overshadow your teeth and steal the spotlight! If your pearly whites seem to be small and diminished, get in touch with us to schedule a consultation. With our high-tech dental laser, we can recontour your gums and make sure your pearly whites shine on the center stage of your smile.

What is Gum Recontouring?

In essence, gum recontouring is the process of reshaping the gumline. By removing excess tissue, we can reveal more of your natural tooth enamel and give your grin a more proportional look. Since gums are vital for protecting dental roots and supporting teeth, we typically only recommend gum recontouring in cases where a patient’s gumline extends farther than what would be considered “normal.”

How Does Gum Recontouring Work?

First, one of our cosmetic dentists will numb your mouth with a local anesthetic. Then they’ll use our soft tissue laser to safely and gently eliminate unnecessary gum tissue. Rest assured, soft tissue lasers are generally considered to be more comfortable, effective, and precise than traditional instruments like scalpels. Since the laser also cauterizes tissue it comes into contact with, you’ll have virtually no recovery time and a much lower risk of infection. All told, the entire process can typically be completed in one appointment.
